Sept. 6, 2012 — A public event featuring Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Pat Boone and other prominent birthers on Sept. 22 at Celebrity Theatre has been cancelled.

Arpaio, a devout proponent of the political faction that doesn’t believe President Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen, has enjoyed some support on this issue in the past, mainly stemming from his “cold case posse” investigation. The Sept. 22 event, which was being organized by local tea party activist Jeff Lichter, was actually called The Greater Phoenix Tea Party Cold Case Posse Event.

“We wish to acknowledge the Herculean effort that Jeff Lichter of the Surprise Tea Party put forth in organizing this event. (Jeff was largely responsible for getting Donald Trump and Sheriff Joe to investigate this matter).  Unfortunately, there is great competition for our time these days as everyone is working hard on the upcoming elections. Jeff wants to assure everyone the work on this issue will continue and the call for a Congressional investigation into the fraudulent documents produced by the current administration will be pursued in earnest,” according to the Greater Phoenix Tea Party.

The event had been scheduled earlier this summer and was advertised as a “fraudulent Obama documents” event.

“Please join us for an exciting time as the Greater Phoenix Tea Party and the Surprise Tea Party present an event to support Sheriff Joe and his investigation into the fraudulent Obama documents. Find out what we can do to get Congress to take action!” according to the event page before the event was cancelled.

Besides Arpaio and Boone, speakers were to include Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, Bettina Viviano, Mike Zullo and Tom Ballantyne.

According to the Greater Phoenix Tea Party, those that did buy tickets will receive automatic refunds if purchased online or over the phone. Those who purchased tickers at the Celebrity Theatre box office will have to revisit the office for their refund.
