Dec. 5, 2012 — GoGreen, a one-day sustainability conference is coming to Phoenix Thursday, a one-day extravaganza designed to help carry businesses to higher levels of efficiency.

According to a 2011 survey conducted by MIT Sloan Management Review and the Boston Consulting Group, nearly 70 percent of all businesses already have sustainable business practices. Yet, advancing technology necessitates a constant vigilance for new ways to enhance a business’ competitive edge.

At GoGreen Phoenix 2012, the next generation of business practices will be presented, evidenced by discussion topics ranging from ‘triple bottom line’ to zero-waste strategies and a keynote from an advertising guru who explains how to sell the concept to those who don’t care about environmental impacts.

The city of Phoenix is the title sponsor for GoGreen 2012. Arizona Public Service is the presenting sponsor.

“Empowering the sixth-largest city to live a healthier, more robust, and economically secure lifestyle is no easy task. A strong economy and workforce are key to Phoenix’s long-term prosperity and sustainability now and in the future,” said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton in a release.

Stanton will kick off the event at 8:30 a.m. with opening remarks, followed by Derrick Hall of the Arizona Diamondbacks. A panel discussion on the business case for sustainability will follow. Breakout sessions and special presentations by the city of Phoenix and Arizona Public Service will fill most of the morning and afternoon breakout sessions. From noon to 1 p.m., Stanton will host “The Mayors Challenge: Urban Sustainable Development Solutions” panel, alongside the mayors of Mesa and Tempe.

The afternoon keynote, "We Hate Sustainability, Moving beyond the S-word” will be at 4 p.m. and will be presented by Nick Barham of advertising group W+K Tomorrow, Wieden+Kennedy, followed by a networking reception.
