June 28, 2019 — With Independence Day fast approaching, there is little time to think of anything but fireworks, but there are many ways to show dedication to the values of the United States of America. 

The first opportunity is on Tuesday July 2 at the ICE Phoenix headquarters, 2035 N. Central Ave., Phoenix to join Arizona Jews for Justice, concerned residents and other community groups in  protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement's treatment of asylum seeking families while in ICE custody from 9 to 10 a.m. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/events

If joining a rally is not for you, then there is a reading performance of abolitionist and ex-slave, Frederick Douglass' riveting and iconic speech, "What To The Slave Is The 4th of July?" by four individuals, Floyd Alvin Galloway, Richard Holmes, Danny DL White and Calvin Worthen that begins at 7 p.m. at the Phoenix Center for the Arts’ Third Street Theatre, 1202 N. The “In The Line of Duty” Benefit Concert will be held at 4 p.m. at Heights Church, 2121 Larry Caldwell Drive, Prescott. This is a tribute to first responders. Attending will be the family who was bullied and harassed over a Barbie doll in a Phoenix parking lot recently, as well as other residents and victims who accuse Phoenix Police officers of engaging in police brutality and civil rights violations.
