Feb. 21, 2017 — Activists seeking to halt the immigration and refugee policies of U.S President Donald Trump will hold rallies to persuade members of Congress to take action at more than 30 locations across the country Wednesday, Feb. 22, including targeting U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake in Arizona.

In Arizona, Promise Arizona and the We Are All America Coalition are sponsoring a rally at 2200 E. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, at the offices of U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake.

We Are All America Coalition is comprised of dozens of people of faith and immigrant and refugee organizations. With the recent release of General John F. Kelly deportation memos and Donald Trump’s anticipated executive orders, the group’s plan this week is to visit members of Congress in-district during their President’s Day recess.

Petra Falcon, executive director of Promise Arizona, said the Arizona action is a blatantly open attempt to get Flake to once again engage on the immigration issue. Flake was among the “Gang of Eight” that worked on immigration reform in 2013. It failed in the House.

“Sen. Flake has been a champion of immigration reform in the past and we need him back in that fight,” she said.

Falcon said the residents of Arizona will weather this current national immigration fervor.

“Here in Arizona, we have lived through SB 1070 and we have lived through Sheriff Joe Arpaio and we know how to fight back,” Falcon said.

Jen Smyers, associate director for immigration and refugee policy, Church World Service, said this attack on immigration is unprecedented and looms immediately for those impacted.

“We’ve all seen the implementation memos that have recently come out. These memos vastly ramp up the deportation force president Trump has been threatening,” she said. “This is unprecedented and unconscionable. We are calling on everyone in Congress to do everything in their power to stop these orders.”

Ahlam Jbara of MPower Change says the Muslim community in the U.S. will fully exercise its Constitutional right to protest.

“As Muslim Americans we are part of this nation, part of We the People. We will be fully participating tomorrow," he said.

Mike Wilker, senior pastor at Lutheran Church of the Reformation, Washington, D.C. and  Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, said it is the obligation of all Christians to fight the current administration's call to restrict and deport those not legally allowed to be here.

"Lutherans and many other Christians take the bible seriously. We think it tells us to love everyone equally," he said. "Pres. Trump's orders are draconian and cruel. He continues to scapegoat the weakest members of our communities."
