May 26, 2015 — After a record setting year for attendance in 2014, the 2015 Phoenix Comicon is looking to break new records.
There is plenty of programming going on during the four-day takeover of the Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N. Third St., Phoenix. The only problem that convention goers may face is being burdened with choice and having to decide what to do each day. Well, we can’t make those decisions any easier, but we have compiled some highlights for each day to help narrow the field a little bit.
Thursday, May 28
Conspiracy! Star Wars Style! - There are many theories that have been proposed by fans about every corner of the Star Wars universe, and this panel will attempt to explain some of the mysteries that surround a galaxy far far away. The panel is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in room North 229.
Dragonball Z - This panel is being hosted by NerdRage and will be centered around one of the most popular anime’s of all time, Dragonball Z. There will be prizes, trivia and games all centered around the show. The panel is taking place from 4:30 to 5:30 in room North 224.
Attack On Titan Ask Panel - Dragonball Z may be fondly remembered for what it did years ago, but Attack On Titan is the coolest anime of the moment and that makes this panel a must attend. The panelists will be on hand to answer questions related to the show and manga like what Titan Killers do in their spare time and other such matters in the Attack On Titan universe. The panel will be taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. in room North 222.
Welcome To Nightvale In-Character Q&A - Welcome To Nightvale is a podcast in the style of an old time radio show with a fun supernatural twist and the stars of the podcast will be on hand and in character for this fun and unique Q&A. The panel will be taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. in room North 224.
Sketch Off: Wolverine - Wolverine is one of the most popular characters in all of comics and this panel will let fans see some of the premiere artists working in the field today do their take on everyone’s favorite mutant. Attendees can purchase the sketches that are being done during the event. Proceeds will be used to benefit the Kid's Need to Read Charity. The panel will be taking place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room North 121.
Friday, May 29
Jurassic Park - With the release of the long awaited fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World, fast approaching, the gang from Educating [Geeks] will be doing a live podcast discussing the original film. The group will discuss Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic and all of it’s dinosaur on human action. The panel will be taking place from noon to 1 p.m. in room West 213B.
Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse - Zombies have never been more prominent in pop culture than they are now, and that has led to a lot discussion as to what it would take to survive if a zombie apocalypse were to ever actually happen. The Department of Zombie Defense will be on hand to walk people through what they need to do in order to survive. The panel will be taking place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in room West 213B.
Edward James Olmos - The career of Edward James Olmos has spanned three decades and he has been featured in the classic Ridley Scott film Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica and most recently on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This spotlight panel will be highlighting his entire career and give fans a chance to ask questions. The panel will be taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in the West 301 Ballroom.
Spotlight On Daredevil - From his inception in 1964 to his recent hit show on Netflix, this panel will be highlighting the legacy of “The Man Without Fear,” Daredevil. Creators will be on hand to discuss their love of the character and what the future holds for him. The panel will be taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in room North 122.
DC Animated Universe - Marvel Studios may currently be dominating the box office, but DC has had a big leg up in the animated world for quite some time and this panel will highlight some of the creative team behind the current DC animated universe. The panel will be taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. in room North 122.
Saturday, May 30
Jason Momoa - Some may know him from his role as Khal Drogo in season one of Game of Thrones and the world will soon know him as Aquaman, but in any case, Jason Momoa is a big deal right now and he will be on hand for a spotlight panel to get the day started right on Saturday. The panel will be taking place from noon to 1 p.m. in West 301 Ballroom.
Captain Squeegee - Take a break from the busy convention floor and head outside to catch one of Arizona’s finest local bands, Captain Squeegee, on the 80/20 Records stage. The band will be playing a full set just outside the convention center. The show will be taking place from 1 to 2 p.m. on the Third Street Stage.
Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof - Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof will be taking the stage on Saturday to talk about their long careers in TV and film and to promote their new show, Finding Carter. The panel will be taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in the West 301 Ballroom.
Marvel Vs. DC - This panel will look to answer the question that has always plagued the comic book industry: Who is better? Marvel or DC? This fan favorite panel returns to the convention this year to tackle the never ending debate. The panel will be taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in room North 122.
Katee Sackhoff - From Battlestar Galactica to Riddick, Katee Sackhoff is anything but just the typical pretty face in the crowd, she is a full on action star and she will be on hand to discuss her career and answer fans questions. The panel will be taking place from 4:30 to 5:30 in the West 301 Ballroom.
The Star Wars Trivia Challenge - What better way to end a day at Comicon than to see how much you really know about a galaxy far far away with The Star Wars Trivia Challenge. The trivia will span the entirety of the universe from the books, animated series, films and everything inbetween. The panel will be taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. in room North 229.
Sunday, May 31
Christopher Lloyd - Most noticeable for playing Doc Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, Christopher Lloyd has had a career that has spanned longer than most of the convention goers have lived. Lloyd will be on hand to discuss his storied career and to answer questions from fans. The panel will be taking place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the West 301 Ballroom.
Ron Perlman - Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim are just a few of the main reasons that convention goers will know Ron Perlman. The unmistakable and charismatic journeyman actor will be on hand to take fans through his career and answer questions. The panel will be taking place from noon to 1 p.m. in the West 301 Ballroom.
How To Become A Phoenix Comicon Volunteer - Volunteers are the lifeblood of Phoenix Comicon and the event couldn’t happen without them. Plus, volunteering comes with a set of perks like free admission to the convention. This panel will educate attendees on how they can become a volunteer for future events. The panel is taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in room North 228.
Karl Urban - Fans will know Karl Urban as Bones from the most recent series of Star Trek films, but he has also taken on the role of Judge Dredd in Dredd and battled Orcs in Middle Earth in Lord of the Rings. Urban will be at the convention Sunday to discuss his career and answer whatever questions fans may have. This panel will be taking place from 3 to 4 p.m. in the West 301 Ballroom.
Fan Fest Preview Panel - What better way to end this years Phoenix Comicon than to look forward to the second annual Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest, which will be taking place once again at University of Phoenix Stadium in December. Details and information of this years event will be revealed during the course of the panel. The panel will be taking place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in room North 230.
