March 10, 2015 - The 2015 Devoured Phoenix Culinary Classic has come and gone, and the event did not disappoint. Just as expected, the Phoenix Art Museum was filled with a bunch of people trying their hardest to look fancy while shoving an ungodly amount of food in their face.

And, I was the King of the Pigs. The Emperor of Decadence. Eating as much as I could as fast as I could.

In reality, I probably looked more like a bizarro Joey Chestnut, wolfing down gourmet treats as fast as the dutiful chefs would hand them to me. No amount of meat sweats could stop me from enjoying every last morsel of food offered to me.

Thanks to the non-stop beer, wine and cocktails, my memory of the day’s events is a bit foggy. I passed out into a three-hour food coma the moment I got home. Luckily, I brought my trusty camera along to capture the action.

I do remember a few things, though.

Stone Brewing Co.’s Japanese Green Tea IPA is one of the best experimental beers I’ve tried in a while. It’s crisp and refreshing with a bit of sweetness.

Green chile pork is a quintessentially southwestern food and Tavern Americana does it up right. It’s a simple dish, which makes it easy to screw up through over seasoning or just overcomplicating it, but that place does it up right.

The ancho chile margarita from Joyride will get you drunk because it’s delicious and you won’t want to stop drinking it. If you’ve never mixed hot peppers and tequila, get out of Arizona.

The rest of the food and drink was delicious, I’m sure, but I can’t say it with complete certainty. Take a look at the tape to see what I thought before I passed out in a drunken stupor.
