Aug. 15, 2019 — The Dow dropped 800 points on Wednesday, causing many economists to utter a word no one — least of all a very unpopular president up for re-election next year — wants to hear: Recession. With indications that one is on the horizon between now and late 2020, can we count on the Donald Trump administration to calm economic jitters? That seems unlikely, given Trump’s tariff war with China. At this point, Trump seems to have little concern about what a trade war may bring for U.S. consumers.

He also showed no self-awareness regarding how his visits to hospitals in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas — in the wake of mass shootings in both cities — were received by most voters.

As if a possible recession isn’t bad enough, the nation is now also dealing the fallout from the suicide of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, along with large protests in Hong Kong and Russia this week. As yet another incredible week of news continues, Modern Times’ John Guzzon and Karen Weil, put in their two cents.
